Untold Scandal Movie
My Score: 8/10
Director: Je-yong Lee
Summary: Taking place at the end of the Chosun era where new Christianity and traditional Confucianism were conflicting with each other, two scandalous cousins played with people’s hearts.
Lady Joh and Jo-won are their names. Jo-won’s past time is having sex with as many women as he can. Lady Joh enjoys manipulating people while holding a grudge on her husband for making her marry when she didn’t want to years ago.
One day, Lady Joh’s husband gets a new concubine… an innocent 16-year-old. For revenge on her husband, she tells Jo-won to get the girl pregnant right before she’s taken by her husband. However, Jo-won is preoccupied with Lady Sue. Lady Sue is a devout widowed Catholic and so, is an interesting challenge for Jo-won.
Lady Joh makes a bet with him. If he can sleep with Lady Sue, she will let him sleep with her as well, since Lady Joh was his first love. If he can’t seduce Lady Sue, then he will become a monk.
Review: Okay this is based on an 18th-century French book called Les Liaisons dangereuses. If you’ve seen the American movie Cruel Intentions, that movie is based on that book as well… though the ending of Cruel Intentions is a bit different from Untold Scandal; they both have their own charms so I can’t decide which is “better”. I do like this story-line, haha.
The story is interesting and kind of lovely, yet tragic. There were a few amusing parts to it, but I don’t think it was really a “comedy”. There was quite a few nude sex scenes… full body nude sex scenes, so if you’re not comfortable with that, then be prepared to fast forward.
Apparently this was a very popular movie in Korea. I agree that it’s worth watching… you’ll probably enjoy it more if you haven’t seen Cruel Intentions… just because that movie will spoil a few things for you here.
Oh, I want to note that I was shocked to find that Bae Yong-Joog played the lead in this movie… I really can’t recognize actors when they have facial hair!
My Score: 8/10
