I Saw The Devil

Review: Wow so violent and intense! The movie started off shocking and horrible right away. Not even 10 minutes into the film, we see the violent attack involving the main character’s fiancee.

That scene was the first step in ensuring the audience feels no sympathy for the killer. The next part of the movie might make you laugh  darkly as the villain is stalked, beaten, and then let go to once again be hunted by the angry vigilante agent. After all, the killer is only getting what he deserves! Things stay interesting as we see what punishment the agent comes up with next.

The second half of the movie gets filled with more thriller-action when the agent has to deal with more than one killer at once. There was a pretty suspenseful scene, and it’s not certain whether the guy will come out of it alive or not.

There were a lot of cringe-worthy moments. A lot of stabbings, extreme beatings, chopped-up bodies, and blood. Since the agent allows the killer to go free-range so he can be hunted, there are many civilian casualties as well, which is the beginning of the main point of this movie. See, there are no happy endings here. There can be no happy end no matter what, because in that first scene, the agent’s whole happiness was taken from him and revenge can’t bring her back.

In the beginning, we want the hero to go after the killer and get his revenge, but as time goes on, the good guy gets more and more brutal. Unlike other movie plots, where the hero stops after being warned of losing humanity, or realizes it just in time, this guy may know, but just doesn’t care anymore. He goes to the edge without stopping, which is something I’m sure many people have wanted to see happen in similar circumstances. However, by the end of the movie, one might wonder if it was really worth it. Is there even a way to “win” against a psychopath, who’s incapable of remorse? Is it really “winning” if the hero becomes just as crazy as the villain? Though these questions may never be answered here, that is the main point of this story.
