Playlist: Melancholic Kpop Music

Instead of Artist of the Week today, I’ll give you a playlist.

There are often times when I want to put myself into a melancholic trance. A few songs are really good for that. They’re beautiful, yet sad-sounding.

If you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

Here are my top picks:

BIGBANG – KOE WO KIKASETE
Shin Hye Sung – Think About It
BIGBANG – LOVE SONG
K.Will – Miss Miss and Miss
Lee Eun Mi – I Have a Lover
Taebin – Reason I Close My Eyes
Kim Dong Ryul – Replay
Gummy – I’m Sorry
Dae Eul – Black Tears
Wheesung – I Even Thought Of Marriage
Jang Woo Hyuk – Back to the Memories
Brian Joo – Loved, Now It’s Over
Brown Eyes – Don’t Go, Don’t Go
Izi – Emergency Room (Delightful Girl Choon-hyang OST)
Davichi – Don’t Say Goodbye
Park Ji Heon – Should We Break Up?
Alex – Can’t Be Crazy, Even If I Wanted To
Daesung – Baby Don’t Cry

.

BIGBANG – KOE WO KIKASETE
I’m counting this as Kpop since Big Bang is a Kpop group… even though this song is in Japanese. I don’t find the lyrics particularly sad, but this song just sounds so beautiful it makes me want to cry sometimes.

Shin Hye Sung – Think About It
Like Koe wo Kikasete, the lyrics aren’t really that sad… but the song itself has a kind of longing to it that is just too beautiful.

BIGBANG – LOVE SONG
This song does have sad lyrics. The first time I read the translations I felt it was kind of sad… and then when I fully realized what they meant, I felt really melancholic.

K.Will – Miss Miss and Miss
Great emotional expression in this song. It’s easy to get lost in the feeling of K.Will’s singing.

Lee Eun Mi – I Have a Lover
This woman is amazing. The song is just so raw and powerful… it always gets to me at the end, especially with the translation.

Taebin – Reason I Close My Eyes
Kind of an older song, but it’s one of my mandatory melancholic songs. There’s enough good English in the song for non-Korean speakers to get what the song’s about as well.

Kim Dong Ryul – Replay
Kind of a soothing voice. The song feels melancholic but absolute. Kind of like… being sad something is gone, but accepting it. I think it’s because the lyrics are sad, but the vocals are so controlled.

Gummy – I’m Sorry
This song just makes me want to cry… especially when you watch the Korean music video with it.

Dae Eul – Black Tears
There is so much power and emotion here, I almost can’t handle it sometimes.

Wheesung – I Even Thought Of Marriage
There is no denying the emotion in this song. Sometimes it even feels like he’s going to start crying… even though this song isn’t as slow as most on this list.

Jang Woo Hyuk – Back to the Memories
Jo Hyuna’s expressive voice is the perfect pairing to Jang Woo Hyuk’s powerful rapping in this song… especially at the climatic high-note towards the end. Gets me every time.

Brian Joo – Loved, Now It’s Over
Beautiful and full of expression.

Brown Eyes – Don’t Go, Don’t Go
One of my sister’s favorite sad songs.

Izi – Emergency Room (Delightful Girl Choon-hyang OST)
Okay, I might be a little biased since I saw the drama… so this song takes me back to the sad parts of the show. I like the combination of the raw and the soothing parts of his voice in this song.

Davichi – Don’t Say Goodbye
Amazing vocals. ’nuff said.

Park Ji Heon – Should We Break Up?
There’s just something about the dynamics of the song. Going from almost whispering to something more powerful. I just love it.

Alex – Can’t Be Crazy, Even If I Wanted To
Well, Alex just has an amazing voice. This song would almost feel upbeat if it wasn’t for the emotion in his voice, especially towards the end.

Daesung – Baby Don’t Cry
When this song first came out, my sister and I listened to it in silence… then concluded that even though he was telling us not to cry, this song made us want to cry for some reason.
